Why Your Healthcare Takes a Team

By August 10, 2017No Comments

Do you wonder how celebrities and stars do it?  Looking so beautifully flawless all the time, jetting  around the world, working on the movie/show/music tour  while promoting their perfume line, saving children in Africa,  and still having time for a daily workout, yoga, qigong, massage, etc., etc.

They can do it because they have a team: publicist, image stylist, concierge doctor, yoga instructor,  personal chef, dog nanny — who knows how many people it takes to make life so healthy and effortless.

Don’t you have a team like this?  You MIGHT be saying, that sounds amazingly great – I want your life, Dr. Christina!  Well, maybe not. It does sounds extreme, but here’s the point: You need a team in your life for the sake of the health and wellbeing of you and of your family.

It is challenging, and almost impossible these days, to do it alone. But I can tell you, a lot of people try, and some of them I see as patients who are stressed, eating and sleeping poorly, in discomfort. And are coming to me because they’re not living anywhere near their physical and mental potential. I, as their chiropractor and wellness expert, become a member of their team, and we work together on increasing their nerve flow as well as many other things that help them be their best and live their best.

It’s about your support system — your team — that you design to meet your mind-body-spirit needs. Let’s break it down into 3 areas of healthcare that every one of us needs:

  1. Movement. Some kind of regular movement and exercise will keep your energy flowing, which is key to helping your body heal itself and stay healthy.  It doesn’t necessarily require a personal trainer or yoga teacher, although that kind of learning, training, and accountability is a great investment. But all it takes is a regular routine that can range from walking your dog to light cardio all the way to high-intensity and strength training.  Explore yoga, qigong and other practices that resonate with you — maybe in a class or via Youtube video at home.  Take dance lessons, bull-riding, whatever!

Here’s the thing: Most of us will say, “I don’t have time for the gym.”  I ask those people: “Do you have time to get sick or injured?”

  1. Relaxation and “treat” time. As you know from our conversations about the sympathetic and parasympathetic nerve systems,  having wind-down time to relax and enjoy yourself is one key to vibrant health. A peaceful walk or some form of meditation which you can do by yourself. Often it takes a team to schedule the time — negotiate with your spouse/partner, spring for a babysitter, or commit with your BFF to get “you” time on the calendar.  The team effort may be for ceramics class, singing lessons, horseback riding — whatever makes your molecules sing!

Yes, you may have to pay for services to make this happen, but it’s SO worth it when you’re happier — and your body will repay you with great health.

  1. Healthcare.  You want your brain to communicate with the rest of your body so all your functions work beautifully for you!  For this, an important member of your healthcare team is your friendly neighborhood chiropractor, to clear that nerve flow for optimum function, because: Blocked power is blocked life.

Here are other team members to consider for you and your family, healthcare practitioners with a preventive approach dedicated to helping your body heal itself:  naturopathic doctor (N.D.), massage therapist for soft-tissue work, acupuncturist or other energy practitioners, nutritionist to ensure you’re eating right to support your body.

The investment in yourself is worth it! Create the team that will allow you to step out every day as your best, healthiest, most beautiful self.  You’re worth it. You deserve it.
